WEST20

"Citizens, where is the pressure to talk about poverty?" said Cornel West, philosopher, academic, social activist, and author, as he delivered his remarks in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day Thursday, January 19, 2017, at Bowling Green State University. Professor West spoke to a packed room of about 1,000 students, fellow academics and area residents, addressing the legacy of Dr. King. He referred to the growing culture of materialism as, "a culture that's deified being a brand rather than fighting for a cause" and cautioned against remembering Dr. King as a man who made people feel comfortable. "The FBI said he was the most dangerous man in America," adding, "When he was alive he had so much love flowing from him. Justice is what love looks like in public."
